Identification of Need
Our setting adopts a holistic approach to the early identification and assessment of needs.
We observe and monitor learners’ strengths, differences, and difficulties across various learning environments to inform tailored planning.
We use a combination of summative and formative assessments, alongside structured observations and targeted checklists, to evaluate progress and identify barriers to learning.
We regularly seek input from learners and parents to better understand personal experiences in the classroom and collaboratively address barriers to engagement and learning.
Our school demonstrates a strong understanding of how pupils with SEND are progressing, both with individual teachers and across different subjects.
The SENCo and assessment lead work closely with subject leaders and classroom teachers to regularly review pupil progress. Variations in achievement between subjects are carefully monitored, constructively addressed, and followed up with targeted actions.
We detail the graduated approach to identifying learners with SEND in our SEND Information Report, which is available on our website. This ensures that SEND is identified promptly and effectively.
