Handwriting tasks

Adaptations & effective instruction.

  • Use bold black pens for writing. This improves readability and reduces visual strain.

  • Use non-cursive print when providing written feedback to enhance clarity.

  • Ensure personal access to bold pens, dark pencils, scissors, glue stick, and large print ruler to promote independence.

  • Provide exercise books with darker, wider lines to aid alignment and improve writing accuracy (available from the Partially Sighted Society).

  • Offer typing as an alternative to handwriting to reduce fatigue and support clearer written output.

  • Support touch typing via Doorway Online to build efficient typing for long term access.

  • Follow VI team guidance for reasonable adjustments to ensure curriculum access.
