Stress tolerance
Difficulty managing uncertainty, change and competing demands.
Encourage the learner to recognise triggers of stress so they can anticipate and manage stress before it escalates.
Talk to the learner about stress, anxiety, and worries, and how this feels in their body. This builds self-awareness and normalises emotional experiences.
Provide learners with strategies for managing stressful situations. This equips them with tools to cope effectively and build resilience.
Reassure learners that a low level of anxiety and stress is healthy and normal and useful for being productive. This reduces fear of stress and reframes it as a motivator.
Remind students that anxious feelings come in ‘waves’ – in the moment these can feel overwhelming, but they always pass. This encourages patience and perspective during difficult moments.
Support the learner to think about factors which are consistent and will stay the same. This promotes a sense of stability and control during change or uncertainty.
