Accessing text/resources

Difficulties in accessing text/resources due to low vision.

  • Allow for rest breaks when text is being read aloud to a group. This helps manage cognitive fatigue, which is common in learners with MSI, and supports sustained attention and participation.

  • Plan to pause and offer support only when the learner cannot overcome a difficulty independently. This scaffolds learning while encouraging problem-solving and resilience, helping the learner build confidence over time.

  • Include books and films featuring deaf, visually impaired, or MSI characters in classroom and library collections. This promotes representation and helps learners feel seen and valued within the school community.

  • Ensure appropriate exam arrangements are in place, including access to modified test papers. Embedding these into standard assessment practice ensures fair and equitable access to testing.

  • Access training offered by external agencies such as JCQ to support understanding of access arrangements and reasonable adjustments. This ensures staff are well-informed and able to implement inclusive practices effectively.
